PUNK PILATES
PUNK PILATES
Pilates is not just for rich, white, able-bodied cis-women.
Pilates is for *every* body.

Pilates is for *every* body.
Car accident. Shoulder dislocation. Fibromyalgia. Lymphatic disorder. Two torn meniscuses.
All these brought me to physical therapy in 2011, and again in 2017. It was here I was introduced to Pilates, both mat exercises and apparatus. I felt astounded by the effectiveness of such small movements, the tiny muscles activated and the elongation of joint spacing. I literally felt taller after each session. I began Peak Pilates Comprehensive Certification for Instructors in 2020, right before the pandemic began. To date, I have over 1000 hours of mat teaching experience.
Pilates provides training in core control and joint stabilization.
It’s especially beneficial for those who are *not* athletes, those who work at a desk, and those who have previous injuries and/or hypermobility. Pilates illuminates imbalances in the body (we all have them, and they are normal!), and adjusts the body to a more evenly stabilized state.
My special interest is in working with people who experience:
- hypermobility, chronic illness and/or pain, ongoing effects from past or present injuries
- alienation from their body, for any reason
- anxiety and negative associations with movement
- gatekeeping from others around movement

Movement is our birthright — from each according to their ability, to each according to their needs. The founder of Pilates said, “change begins with movement, and movement heals”.

"Working with Cyan over the past year has helped me stay in touch with what's going on in my body.
I've gotten strong, more flexible and my lower back pain has almost entirely disappeared which was a main goal for me when we began. I love how they supplement Pilates practice with targeted stretches, self-massage and mindfulness based on what I need that day. Highly recommended!"
